Bark-Buster
Operating instructions
1) Introduction
It comprises 2 modules. Module 1 (white) Starport's special bark detector, Bark-Buster and module 2 (dark green) an ultrasonic blaster called Super Gardengard 2 . When a dog barks, module 1 picks up the sound, then activates module 2 which emits a very loud ultrasonic / transonic blast (130 dB approx) that causes discomfort to the dog but is not harmful in any way. When the bark stops, so does the ultrasonic blast. Because Bark-Buster only annoys the dog when it barks, the dog learns to be quiet.
2) Your kit comprises:
a) Bark-buster module (white bark detector) b) Super Gardengard 2 & AC adapter c) Velcro pack
You need to read these instructions in conjunction with those of the Super Gardengard 2 unit. Please see relevant operating instructions at www.izola.co.uk/sgg2oppinst.htm
3) Principles of installation:
a) Bark-Buster works line of sight only. Obstacles and barriers will reduce or eliminate effectiveness.
b) Success is a function of distance. The closer you site Bark-Buster to your target animal, the greater the chances of success in stopping the barking. If the distances are large consider installing more than one Bark-Buster to cover say the top and bottom end of a yard.
c) If possible, install Bark-Buster on the same level as the dog. Bark-Buster can nevertheless be installed at high level panning down into your neighbours yard.
d) Install Bark-Buster in as sheltered position as possible. Although both modules are weather resistant, delicate components such as transducers and microphones are moisture sensitive and could degrade over a period of time. To prevent this, installation in a sheltered area is important and we also recommend that both modules are removed when particularly bad weather is expected.
4) How to install:
a) Install the Super Gardengard 2 (see www.izola.co.uk/sgg2oppinst.htm ). Super Gardengard 2 has an AC adapter. You can operate Bark-Buster with or without the special weather protector that comes with the Super Gardengard 2. Not using the weather protector marginally improves the effectiveness of the device.
b) Fix the Bark-Buster module on top of the Super Gardengard 2 using the Velcro provided. 2 soft pieces for the top of Super Gardengard 2 and it's weather shield, and one hard piece for the base of Bark-Buster. Make sure that the DC cable is connected and plugged into the DC socket at the base of Super Gardengard 2. Next plug the Bark-Buster lead into the socket called 'MOTION SENSOR' on the base of Super Gardengard 2. Important: You may have a small wire extension at the end of this cable. If so YOU MUST USE IT. This wire extension is actually a cable converter to adapt to the wiring format of your particular mark of Super Gardengard 2.
c) CAUTION. BEFORE CONNECTING THE SUPER GARDENGARD 2 TO THE MAINS, ALWAYS MAKE SURE THE DC PLUG IS CORRECTLY INSERTED AS FAR AS IT WILL GO. WHEN USING BARK-BUSTER, ALWAYS MAKE SURE THAT THE CONNECTING PLUG IS FULLY INSERTED INTO SUPER GARDENGARD 2 BEFORE THE LATTER IS CONNECTED TO THE MAINS. When this is done switch the Super Gardengard 2 power switch to 'ON'. Switch the output level to 'H' and the Frequency level to 'L', but be prepared to try 'M' or 'H' levels to see if these are more useful settings in practice with your particular problem. Initially set the switch at the front of Super Gardengard 2 to 'C', but be prepared to experiment with the 'R' setting if necessary.
5) How to adjust the Bark-Buster (white bark detector):
a) Bark-Buster is opened on the back where the 'CE' mark is found. The complete back panel is easily removed with a small screwdriver or scissor blade gently applied to the small notch at the top centre of the seam between the back panel and the main case of the unit. The back panel simply snaps back into place when you have finished adjusting Bark-Buster's settings.
Once the back cover is opened (see below), you will be able to see two dials both calibrated 1 - 10 on Bark-Buster's circuit board. One dial is marked 'S'. This controls the sensitivity of the microphone to the bark. The other knob is marked 'T'. This controls the length of time Bark-Buster activates Super Gardengard 2 on receipt of the bark sound. Setting 'T' on it's lowest setting will mean that Bark-Buster instantly cuts out when the bark stops. Adjusting the dial upwards will delay the time Bark-Buster stops by up to several seconds.
It is recommended that the user experiment with the most suitable settings for their particular problem. We suggest that 'T' is initially set to '1', however 'S' is more difficult to predict as much depends on the background noise at the site. Bark-Buster will not have the required result if it is being triggered by noise from say a car or train at the bottom of the yard. On the otherhand it needs to be set at a level of sensitivity necessary for it to react to the bark.
6) Operating Bark-Buster:
a) Bark-Buster has LED lights inside it's casing that do the following: Amber means connected to power. Red means activated. Each time the dog barks, bark-Buster activates the Super Gardengard 2 and the red LED light inside Bark-Buster will light up.
For care and maintenance please see www.izola.co.uk/sgg2oppinst.htm .
Bark-Buster is supported by a full 12 month return to base technical warranty.
